PURSE CAUNDLE HISTORY DAY 27 June 2009

To further an interest in the history of Purse Caundle, I have initiated a Purse Caundle History Day for Saturday, 27th June 2009. The Rector and Parochial Church Council have kindly given permission for me to have several display boards inside the church, depicting something of the village's colourful history down through the ages. Visitors are encouraged to bring along photographs and momentoes of the village, which hopefully they will be willing for me to scan and add to the historical record. The intention is for this exhibition to be open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
It will not be possible of course to cover every historical event and person, so full updated illustrated paper versions of blog postings will be made available for perusal. Appropriate artifacts will also be on display. Some advice on tracing Family History may be possible.
It is hoped that visitors will take advantage of the opportunity to look around the interesting church, and suitably respond by leaving donations to church funds.
On the same day, villagers are organising a Village Picnic, to be held in Church Farm, alongside the church, by kind permission of the farmer. It is proposed to have a childrens' Fancy Dress with an historical theme, races, and other appropriate events. Proceeds will be in aid of church funds.
I have asked the Wessex Morris Men to attend, but am still awaiting an answer.
It is hoped to have off-street parking for visitors from outside the village, and portaloo(s).
It would be appreciated if readers contemplating coming on the Day, could they please intimate as a comment to this posting. Comments to any posting would likewise be welcome.
This post will be updated as fresh information comes to hand, so please keeping watching.
